Seth Ryan Winery is a small boutique winery, nestled in the new Red Mountain Appellation in the southeastern end of the rich, fertile Yakima Valley in Washington State. The winery is a family business now owned and operated by Ron and Jo Brodzinski and their son and daughter, Kirk and Belinda. On special occasion week-ends you will even meet their respective mates and our delightful granddaughter, Amber Star. Each of the owners has a special expertise they bring to the operation, and one of them is always on hand to share with you their style and methods of production. Currently Seth Ryan makes six varietal wines and two specialty blends. The whites are Chardonnay, Riesling, which is done in both off-dry and late-harvest styles, and Gewürztraminer. The reds are Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The two blends are an unusual signature blush table wine called “Rapture” and a red “Meritage” type proprietor’s blend from the Estate KB and Jessica Vineyards. A new vintage of Syrah was added in 2003 and will be ready for release in the near future. The Jessica Vineyard, on the southwest slope of Flat Top Mountain in the Columbia Valley, was planted in 1992 with Merlot. A second planting in 1994 of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc along with a bit of Zinfandel, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, make up the selections. More Merlot was added in a third planting in 2000. The KB Vineyards, planted at the winery in 1997, include the noble varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. The estate winery vineyards are managed by Kirk Brodzinski, while the Jessica Vineyards are owned by Khris Olsen with Kirk consulting. A second planting of the KB Vineyards are in the planning process with Tempranillo and Carmenere being considered. The tasting room, opened in early 1992, has personally selected wine related gifts and specialty foods. Tasting of all available wines are provided, and spirited discussions with the owners are welcomed. Case discounts are always available. Tours of the facilities are usually available, especially on event weekends when guests enter through the production area to better handle the large crowds. Buses and vans are welcome, but the owners ask that you call ahead so that extra personnel can be on hand. Ryan Park is surrounded by the vineyards and is open to the public for picnicking or rental for company gatherings, parties, anniversary and wedding receptions, or other special occasions or events of distinction. |
